Can I install before I fly?Updated 21 days ago
What’s the difference between installing and activating an eSIM?
Installation = adding the eSIM to your phone by scanning the QR code.
Activation = your eSIM connects to a mobile network in a covered country, which starts your data plan.
Only activation starts your plan.
Does installing my eSIM start my plan?
No.
Scanning the QR code or seeing “Activate” during installation does not start your plan.
It’s just your phone preparing the eSIM.
When should I install my eSIM?
You can install it:
At home (any country)
Before your trip
While abroad
We recommend installing it about one week before you travel so you have time to fix any issues.
Should I keep my eSIM turned on after installation?
If you are not yet in a covered country, keep the eSIM OFF.
What is a “covered country”?
A covered country is any country included in your eSIM’s coverage list.
Activation only works when you are physically in one of those countries.
When does my plan activate/start?
Your plan activates only when:
You arrive in a covered country, and
You turn the eSIM line ON, and
Data Roaming is enabled for that eSIM
Once it connects to a local partner network, your data starts.
Can my eSIM activate at home?
Only if:
Your home country is included in your eSIM’s coverage, and
Your eSIM line is turned ON
If your home country is covered (e.g., Global 111 eSIM), follow the steps below to avoid early activation.
How do I prevent accidental activation at home?
Keep the eSIM OFF
iPhone: Settings → Mobile → Select eSIM → Turn OFF
Android: Settings → Network/SIMs → Select eSIM → Turn OFF
Turn OFF Data Roaming for the eSIM
Keep your personal SIM as the active data SIM
When should I turn the eSIM ON?
Only when you land in a covered country and are ready to start using your data plan.
